NONO
Nono describes this to always have been “the dream”; with said dream having come from growing up around boys and a father who was an avid football fan, who naturally, passed on that same love and passion to her. No wonder Nono’s career within SuperSport is a dream come true.
Nono describes challenges within her work to be a continuous journey. “It’s tough being a woman in a male dominated industry”, she says. However, Nono is determined and is committed to leaving a legacy. She is nothing short of a powerhouse who constantly shows up and gives her all. “You can never deny my presence, my contribution and my value”, she says. Nono believes that there is a big responsibility on women to lead by example. Nono views her role as a gateway to empower other women. She thinks back to 2014 with pride as she thinks back to the launch of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge now known as the DStv Diski Challenge. It is within that project where Nono had the opportunity to empower others and is proud of it to date. “Know why you’re in the room. Be clear on why it matters that you succeed in what you do”. Nono encourages the young women of today to be present and not to be afraid; to acknowledge their opportunities and strive to succeed in all that they do. Nono describes herself to be a ‘women’s woman’, as she draws inspiration from other women. Nono draws courage from her mother, who is a retired nurse, and had the boldness to want to make something of herself, after losing her parents at a tender age. She draws strength from her aunt who survived an abusive relationship and came out stronger than ever. She draws grace from women such as Khanyi Dlomo and Basetstana Khumalo. Nono believes that women are selfless in their ministry and that is why she draws inspiration from them.
The word of God is Nono’s greatest motivation daily and whenever she feels uncertain, she describes it to be the food of her soul. Her life’s scripture is Romans 8:28, which she turns to even when things are really tough. This Women’s Month, Nono says to other women that in order to empower one another, women need to be honest with each other. “He who corrects you, loves you”, she says. People tend not to like the truth, and Nono feels that we need to open our minds and hearts to criticism and correction in order to better ourselves. She closes off her statement by saying, “If we can’t correct each other, there’s nothing we can achieve”.
