She began her career in the pharmaceutical industry, curating and organising training courses for pharmacies and medical institutions, where she honed her sales skills and, ‘realised that this was something [she] quite enjoyed —engaging with stakeholders.’This passion led her to the recruiting industry, where she worked as a headhunter until she realised she wanted to be the one pursued for opportunities for a change. And that is how she found herself in the media industry, where she has spent the last ten years building a wealth of experience across various mediums—radio, print, TV, and digital. Since joining MultiChoice in 2017, Refiloe has worked on key accounts, upselling across platforms to generate ad revenue for the group. Now, with two years in her role as Senior Manager of Digital Ad Operations, she oversees the operational structures across MultiChoice’s digital and non-linear platforms, remaining integral to the company’s revenue generation—something she finds exciting and invigorating, especially because no day is ever the same. When discussing the women who have inspired her journey, the conversation naturally turns to her family, values, and what they mean to her. She proudly credits her mother as her greatest inspiration—a woman who has worn many hats and embraced various responsibilities throughout her life. Her mother’s strength and ability to nurture individuality, especially as the mother of triplet girls, have profoundly shaped Refiloe.
REFILOE
As the second of the triplets, Refiloe takes pride in being part of such a unique bond, yet she also appreciates the way her mother allowed each of them to develop their own voices and identities. These values have inspired Refiloe to become actively involved in volunteer work, starting during her university days and continuing into her current role as a board member at a children’s home in Randburg. When asked about having a husband and children, she lovingly refers to the children she supports: ‘Those are my kids. That’s who I’m talking about when I speak about my kids.’ Though she officially joined the board last year, Refiloe has long been dedicated to the children’s welfare, assisting with adoption processes, collaborating with social workers, and ensuring that each child finds their forever home. While the work is challenging, with children coming and going, she finds it deeply fulfilling.
