SEILANENG
Seilaneng Magakoe is one woman who is not ashamed to of the fires she’s been through, to save herself from the world. Her story is inspirational, encouraging you to fight for what’s truly yours and protect it. Seilaneng’s story on how she started working at MultiChoice is interesting. After having completed her matric but couldn’t further her studies, she found herself in a dark space of doing everything in her power to get a job. The young lady walked into the MultiChoice premises with a CV, not sure where to go but absolutely ready to be given a chance. Seilaneng started off as a tea lady at TSA Africa Catering Solutions in 2006. She respected her job and was always willing to go the extra mile, ensuring that her coffee tastes better than well-known baristas’. While making coffee, she was curious of the outside world. “What are they doing in those offices doing and how did they get there?”, she would constantly ask herself. Until one day, she took it upon herself to learn how to use a computer to do some admin work. “The first time I type anything on a computer was at MultiChoice, before then, I had no idea what a mouse feels like in your hands”, Seilaneng says, “I would learn every time I was on a break from the canteen until a lady who did scheduling trusted me with helping and learning from her”.
Her life changed on the 1st of April 2007, when she was hired as an employee at MultiChoice, to assist with Presentation Scheduling. The opportunity she had longed for finally presented itself and so she grabbed it with both hands. She is the true definition of ‘fighting for what’s yours’. “The background of my family does not define who I am, she says. Ï am the writer of my own life.” Since then, she has worked incredibly hard, learning how broadcasting works until she landed a role of the TX Producer in On-Air Operations. Seilaneng’s role at MultiChoice is to ensure that content that is scheduled reach the viewers, with no errors. “We look for everything that may seem not right, before sending it to broadcast”, she explains. For her, the biggest strength that comes with the job is problem solving. Having an eye to point out even smallest mistakes and being able to fix them on time for viewer’s entertainment is extremely important. Even in a leadership position, Seilaneng continues to learn from her team and show up at work, without forgetting where she comes from. This is more than a dream job, she was given the opportunity to make an impact in people’s lives.
